Meet the sisters

The Square Bagel Co. is the dream of Syd and Alana — sisters-in-law and business partners. Alana brought a Culinary Arts degree, years in restaurants and a love of making things from scratch. Syd brought the perfect piece of the puzzle: a historic brick building right on the Rupert square, with plenty of history and even more potential.

After months of gutting, rebuilding and painting — doing a whole lot of the work themselves — they opened their doors in May 2026 and filled the building with the smell of fresh bagels. Everything here is made from scratch: bagels hand-rolled, boiled and baked every morning, cream cheese whipped in-house, sourdough and pastries from our own ovens, and every drink syrup cooked right in our kitchen.

Settle in under the chandelier, grab a booth with the family, or take your coffee out to the patio overlooking the square. Whether it’s a quick bite before work or a slow Saturday breakfast, we’re so glad you’re here.

Why “Square”?

Our name comes from our address. Rupert was founded in 1906 as part of the Minidoka irrigation project, and unlike most Western towns that grew up along a railroad main street, it was planned around a central town square — a park at the heart of the city, ringed by brick storefronts. Thanks to the Minidoka Dam, Rupert also became one of the first towns anywhere to light its streets with electricity.

That square is still the heart of town today. The Rupert Town Square Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2001, the beautifully restored 1920 Wilson Theatre anchors one corner, and the gazebo park in the middle hosts community celebrations all year long.

We’re proud to be part of the square’s next chapter — serving scratch-made food from one of its historic brick buildings, surrounded by the shops and neighbors that make Rupert feel like home.
